WUFI® Passive Advanced Multifamily Training (Phius)

July 11

WUFI® Passive Advanced Multifamily Training (Phius)

Two 4-Hour Sessions on July 11th and 12th from 12:00 – 4:00pm

About the Class
WUFI Passive is a powerful tool that can enhance, streamline, and optimize the design and certification of passive building projects if integrated into the design process properly. This course is for multifamily WUFI Passive users that want to take their modeling to the next level – learning pro tips to ensure the full capabilities of the software are utilized – and concepts and skills learned can be applied to other building types. Students will explore tips to speed up and optimize modeling workflows – including insight on supplemental calculators and supporting tools to improve processes and streamline Phius Certification project submissions.

The registration deadline for this training is June 27th. BE+ recommends registering at least 2 months in advance as seats in this course may fill quickly.

Express Grant Eligibility
Employers with 100 or fewer Massachusetts employees are eligible to receive Express Program grants. In order to be eligible for Express Program grant reimbursement, an Express Program grant application must be submitted no fewer than 21 days before the live-session start date, and you must register for the course through BE+, not Phius.

About Phius

Phius (Passive House Institute US) trains and certifies professionals, maintains the Phius climate-specific passive building standard, certifies and quality assures passive buildings, certifies high-performance building products and conducts research to advance high-performance building.

Learning Objectives

1. Learn about quality-related Phius certification requirements such as moisture control guidelines and condensation risk analysis that compliment the WUFI Passive energy model.

2. Learn how to model complex building assemblies, window conditions, custom materials, and account for various types of thermal bridging often found in large scale buildings.

3. Discuss details specific to modeling a multifamily geometry including takeoff dimensions, grouping windows, multiple zones, attached zones and modeling isolated building zones.

4. Learn how to model various multifamily scale mechanical systems including setting up centralized, semi-centralized and decentralized ventilation systems, working with the DHW calculator and accounting for various renewable energy options.

Technology Requirements

WUFI Passive requires Windows OS. If you use a Mac, you must have a working copy of Windows installed. Mac users need to purchase and install VMWare Fusion, Bootcamp, or Parallels, along with a Windows operating system. VMWare Fusion is recommended.

Prerequisite

Previous introduction to and use of WUFI Passive modeling software is required. If you have not used the software before, consider the ‘WUFI Passive for Beginners’ course before taking this course.
