Jana was highly involved with Greenbuild 2017, where she developed Tours for the Greenbuild International Conference in Boston, which included 29 tours that visited 80+ sites over three days, as well as developed the RFP, reviewed and compiled tour sites into tours, and managed more than 60 volunteers. She is part of DLR Group’s Sustainability Forum, the firm-wide group that provides sustainability strategy, resources, education, analysis and supports teams in DLR’s integrated design process. Jana graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelors in Architecture and a Bachelors in Environmental Design.

Jennifer Taranto brings more than 20 years of experience in the commercial real estate and construction industry. She joined Structure Tone in 2001, where she served as a superintendent and project manager before becoming STO Building Group’s Director of Sustainability. Jennifer gets involved in the early stages of design and construction to define the client’s sustainability goals and help the project team create an internal roadmap to achieve them. With her guidance and expertise, organizations around the world have been able to improve people’s health and wellbeing while reducing the construction and operating costs of facilities. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Engineering from North Carolina State University.

Barbra is the founder and president of the Sustainable Performance Institute a national organization that assists the building industry in institutionalizing sustainability. Additionally, she has founded The Green Roundtable as well as leading the way in forming our own USGBC Massachusetts chapter! Barbra is a trailblazer transforming businesses and the building industry into a more sustainable field.

Project Engineer, Pare Corporation

Lindsey Machamer, P.E. works as a Project Engineer at Pare Corporation and is the current Chair for the BE+ Emerging Professionals Committee. She works on a variety of civil site design and permitting projects across Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Her work includes primarily public building projects which advance from feasibility and design all the way through construction completion. She holds a BS in Civil Engineering and BA in Environmental Studies from WPI and a MS in Engineering Management from Tufts.

Michael Chavez, Director - New to Board!

Architect, Project Development Manager, YouthBuild Boston

Michael Chavez, NCARB, NOMA, LEED AP has worked for YouthBuild Boston for over nine years. His work includes the design and oversight of affordable housing, community service projects and engagement, commercial design for small businesses and nonprofits, the development of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts first Facilities Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship with Winn Companies, and youth program oversight. Michael was also an Enterprise Rose Architectural Fellow where he worked with the Fairmount/Indigo Line CDC Collaborative to spearhead a sustainable, smart growth agenda along the 9-mile Fairmount commuter rail line in Boston, MA. Michael received his undergraduate degree in Environmental Design with an emphasis in Landscape Architecture from the University of New Mexico and a Master of Architecture degree from the Boston Architectural College.

Senior Energy Efficiency Consultant, Eversource

Kim Cullinane has worked in the green building industry as a champion for sustainable buildings since 2002.  She is a senior member of Eversource’s new construction team within its energy efficiency group and co-chairs the statewide Mass Save New Construction Subcommittee. She started in the field managing the Green Schools Program for the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative and leading the development of the MA version of CHPS (a LEED-like tool for k-12 schools). Kim has a BA in economics from Cornell University and a Master of Public Administration from The George Washington University.

Director of Sustainable Design, Boston Architectural College

Michael Fiorillo, AIA, ASLA, has been a member of the BAC faculty for over ten years, overseeing the development of students from their first year through graduation. Micahel has taught in many subject areas at the College, including foundation studios, design theory and inquiry, sustainable material assemblies, advanced studio workshops, site design, and more. He has worked as a graduate thesis advisor and graduate thesis panel member. This interdisciplinary experience has given him a knowledgeable perspective on both the BAC and design pedagogy. Michael has a Master of Architecture from Rhode Island School of Design and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Rutgers College. He founded and managed the architecture and landscape architecture firm, Fiorillo Architects, in Cambridge, MA. The firm focuses on connecting people to larger systems through sustainable solutions.

Sustainability Coordinator, Elkus Manfredi Architects

Kristen Fritsch is an architect with more than 20 years of experience championing collaborative and resilient design, initially as a designer, then as a principal of a small sustainable design firm in Seattle, and since 2012 a sustainability coordinator at Elkus Manfredi Architects. Her role involves implementing energy reduction initiatives, advising and assisting design teams with rating systems, materials and systems research, and administering firm-wide training on sustainable design practices. Kristen is active in several industry organizations and was a co-chair of the Legacy Committee for the 2017 Greenbuild in Boston.  She holds degrees from the University of Nebraska and has been a thesis advisor and taught design studios at the Boston Architectural College on using Biomimicry in the design process.

Senior Sustainability Project Manager, MIT Department of Campus Construction

Randa Ghattas is an architect and sustainability professional with the Systems Performance and Turnover team in MIT’s Department of Facilities. She currently leads sustainability efforts on MIT’s capital projects and develops standards, resources and processes to better integrate sustainability and resiliency in projects. In her current and previous positions at the MIT Office of Sustainability, she has led and/or contributed to initiatives focused on sustainable design and construction, materials management, resiliency, stormwater and landscape management and green labs. Prior to that, as a researcher at the MIT Concrete Sustainability Hub, she collaborated with concrete industry and MIT students, faculty and researchers to develop methodologies that quantify the environmental and economic impacts of buildings systems and materials. Her experience as an architect includes working on multiple institutional planning and design projects at various architectural firms in the Boston area.

Rebecca has worked on numerous LEED projects in addition to a broad range of projects ranging from energy and GHG emissions masterplanning, to existing building retrofits, to new construction and climate change vulnerability assessments. For the past four years, she has also been involved with Arup’s corporate sustainability at the regional and global levels in order to drive sustainability and improve how they operate as an organization.

Chief Sustainability Officer, Harvard University

Heather Henriksen is Harvard University’s chief sustainability officer, since 2008. She advises the President and senior leadership and leads the Office for Sustainability, which oversees Harvard’s holistic Sustainability Plan and Climate Action Plan (to be fossil fuel-free by 2050, fossil fuel-neutral by 2026). A nationally recognized leader, Heather is advancing an effort with faculty and business leaders to translate research into practice to address health and well-being in the built environment. Heather serves on the Health Product Declaration Collaborative and Built Environment Plus Boards and is an Advisory Committee Co-chair of ISCN. Heather holds an MPA from Harvard Kennedy School.

Partner, BuroHappold Engineering

Julie Janiski is partner in Buro Happold’s Boston office where she leads integrated teams of engineers, designers, analysts, and subject-matter experts to deliver the highest performance projects. She aligns design, consulting and analysis to provide solutions that encompass all aspects of regenerative design in the built environment, from carbon reduction and water conservation to social equity and human health and wellbeing. Her career has included work in construction, building operations, architecture, and engineering–an experience that lays the foundation for a fully integrated approach.

Julie has delivered projects across every scale (from design of individual buildings to city planning and drafting policy), and in all major sectors. Her recent work includes consulting for the Massachusetts Commercial Energy Code, a number of U.S. Embassy projects internationally for the U.S. State Department, USDA grant-funded research on forestry and heavy timber design, a Net Zero workforce training center in Pittsburgh, and The House at Cornell Tech – a residential high-rise in New York City which is certified LEED Platinum and Passive House.

Julie holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan and a Master of Design Science in Sustainable Design from the University of Sydney, and continues to engage with students at many institutions as adjunct faculty, a visiting lecturer or critic. Her commitments in the local Boston community include being a board member for Built Environment Plus, the co-chair of the Boston Carbon Leadership Forum, and a key contributing author for a proposed Net Zero stretch code.

Senior Project Manager, MP Boston

As development project manager, Brad Mahoney is responsible for all aspects of MP Boston’s commercial development, including design, construction, leasing, and tenant coordination. In addition, he is also the sustainability and technology lead on MP Boston’s next Boston project, an iconic 1.5 million square foot project in Winthrop Square. Brad holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University.

Chief Program Officer, MassCEC

Galen is the Senior Director of Innovation and Industry Support at the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center. He leads a team focused on providing targeted, strategic, and timely resources to help clean energy companies and entrepreneurs develop technologies, while moving closer to commercialization and market traction in established and emerging markets. Galen’s individual work focuses primarily on microgrids, energy storage, and energy resilience. Prior to joining the MassCEC, Galen led clean energy business and green affordable housing policy development efforts at the City of Boston. Galen has over ten years’ experience developing programs and policies at the City and State level often at the intersection of urban planning, economic development, and clean energy. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts from Colby College.

Becca has worked in the affordable housing field since 2014. She’s been focused on the sustainable construction and rehabilitation of affordable housing in her role at HRI, working on projects that range from 6 units to 300. After completing her Kuehn Fellowship at HRI from 2015 to 2017, Becca stayed on as a Project Manager and Portfolio Manager, furthering HRI’s mission to bring healthy, green building technologies and an equity lens to affordable housing developments and the industry as a whole. Becca is also co-chair and board member of A Better Cambridge (ABC) a local housing advocacy group that supports more sustainable, affordable housing and walkable, community-based development patterns. She earned a BA from Wesleyan University and an MA from Tufts University’s Department of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning.

Jim is an architect at Gensler where he is a regional sustainability and resilience leader. He grew up in New Jersey, attended Syracuse University, and specializes in aviation design. Jim is a former President of AIA MA and Architecture 2030 National Advisory Board member. He lives in Somerville and has two teenagers.
