MassCEC and UMass Energy Extension invite you to attend a repeat of our popular in-depth introduction to energy-efficient heat pump and variable refrigerant flow (VRF) technology. This training will explain how these systems work, how they compare to other heating and cooling equipment, how you can identify appropriate applications, and how to access incentives […]
There is a larger proportion of women in sustainability roles in the built environment than in the AEC industry overall. Why is this? What are the barriers? Where are the opportunities? How can we support each other and create even more momentum? To answer these questions (and more!) we will be hosting a Women in Green: Cocktail Evening on April 9th. Network […]
GBCI: 0920013505 Over the past few years, demand for tools like Environmental Product Declarations has been growing among the green building industry. Primarily intended for a specialized audience, life cycle assessments and their results displayed in standardized documents named EPDs are out in the open for everyone to see. However, EPDs are not mere documentation […]
Architects, particularly sustainability leaders, consistently cite ‘research’ as the number one positive driver of cutting edge design, and the number one activity of which they aren’t doing enough. Paying for it is the trick, and Federal Research and Development Tax Credits may be the answer. Colin Booth of Placetailor will be hosting this session, which is […]

USGBC MA’s mission is to drive sustainable and regenerative design, construction, and operation of the built environment. The only way to accomplish our mission is to collaborate with community members. To that end, join us for our first Living Building Challenge (LBC) Roundtable. The LBC Roundtable will enable like-minded professionals to gather and explore specific […]
The Green Ribbon Commission (GRC) released Carbon Free Boston in January 2019, setting forth an ambitious plan to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050. Because two-thirds of GHG emissions come from buildings, and because the majority of the 2050 building stock was built before 1950, the AEC professions have a large role to play […]
Presented by Greg Norris, Chief Scientist at the International Living Future Institute Imagine products that regenerate our natural systems and improve life. The International Living Future Institute has been inviting manufacturers to use the Living Product Challenge framework to rethink the way products are made. Instead of trying to be “less bad,” ILFI is inviting […]

Thank you to LPA|A for sponsoring this event. The latest update to the LEED BD+C Rating system, version 4.1, was released this January. Version v4.1 promises to be “bigger, bolder and stronger”, raising the bar to more directly address carbon emissions and climate change. It also streamlines and simplifies many credits, resulting in a system […]
Houses are not being built like they used to be. New houses have the capability of having no electric bills, but at the same time being all electric (i.e. use no fossil fuels). Sounds impossible, but it isn’t when using new building products and technologies that improve energy efficiency and that generate their own clean […]
LEED v4 addresses water holistically, taking into account indoor use, outdoor use, specialized uses and metering. It measures all sources of water related to a building, including cooling towers, appliances, fixtures, fittings, process water, and irrigation. The speakers provide an overview of the water credits in LEED, differences between v2009 and v4, discuss how water […]
