We are tasked with the most important mission of all: healing the earth. This event is for professionals to network and connect with leaders in the field, promote women’s leadership across the environmental and built environment industry, and to channel our efforts to build a better world where both genders have equal access to and are involved in leadership and decision-making. At Women in Green you will learn a bit about Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts sustainability journey and why they believe healthcare has a role to play modeling responses and behaviors. Followed with guided table discussions led by local sustainability leaders in examining ourselves, our communities, and our global connections. Enjoy breakfast as we center ourselves and envision how together we can heal the planet.

Director, Sustainability and Environmental Health, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts

Monica Nakielski, of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, is one of the professionals responsible for providing leadership and vision for the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts sustainability and environmental health strategy. Nakielski earned her MBA from the Simmons School of Management and a B.S. in Medical Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Her most recent work has been advocating for positive impact on the environment, health, and climate within hospitals and the medical industry. Prior to the Blue Cross Blue Shield, she was the senior program manager for Partners Healthcare developing sustainable initiatives for 16 medical facilities.

Director of Sustainability, Structure Tone

Jenn is a passionate advocate for reducing environmental impact of the built environment and enabling organizations to improve people’s health and well-being while reducing the construction and operating costs of facilities. She gets involved in the early stages of client projects to define the needs and the overall sustainability goals in order to create an internal road map for a team’s success.At Payette, she works across projects to bring rigor to the performance of projects. From the onset of projects she integrates performance modeling tools into Payette’s design process to inform and push designs. Additionally, she leads a number of internal research projects, and was the Principal Investigator on the 2012 AIA Upjohn Grant on “Thermal Performance of Facades” a research project focused on thermal bridging. She also leads the firm’s efforts on the AIA 2030 Commitment, tracking and benchmarking the performance of projects across the firm.

Kimberly Cullinane is a Senior Energy Efficiency Consultant at Eversource. She is a Certified Energy Manager as well as a LEED Associate Professional. Kimberly has nineteen years of program leadership, energy and environmental policy analysis, and stakeholder management, including 10 years of direct experience in facilitating energy-efficient sustainable building design and construction and sustainable building operations and maintenance. She is an experienced program leader for renewable energy and energy efficiency in Massachusetts. Kimberly is skilled in directing multi-disciplinary stakeholder groups and buildings consensus among disparate parties and has a proven track record in developing and executing strategies aimed at promoting energy efficient, green buildings across the Commonwealth.

Jana is a Principal with more than 20 years’ experience on a diverse portfolio of academic, residential, and healthcare projects. She brings particular expertise in the planning and design of multi-use projects that feature complex approval processes and zoning and programmatic issues. In addition, Jana promotes an integrated design process, exploring ways that green and sustainable design can be addressed and implemented in all of her projects. Jana is a member of the Boston Society of Architects, the USGBC Massachusetts Chapter, and the Society of College and University Planners. Jana also has served on Lasell College’s Green Task Force.
Beth Zonis

Director at Cleantech Open Northeast

Beth has over 25 years of experience in program strategy and management, business development and partnerships, marketing and communications, innovation and entrepreneurship. She comes to the Cleantech Open after five years at MIT: building the Center of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) in Moscow, as Director of Communications in the Office of Digital Learning, and as Director of Emerging Worlds at the Media Lab where she helped empower innovators in emerging economies to solve critical problems with digital technology. Prior to her work at MIT, Beth was Principal of Eco Marketing, a consulting firm focused on marketing and sustainability.
Martine Dion

Martine Dion

Principal, Director of Sustainable Design at SMMA

I am an architect, Principal and the Director of Sustainable Design at SMMA, with twenty two years of experience. I am the chairperson of SMMA’s Sustainable Design consulting team, as well as the sustainability expert within the firm, providing sustainable design and LEED consulting services to clients. I have been in charge of the implementation and coordination of sustainable design practices for the firm for the past fourteen years. We have completed numerous LEED projects and multiple MA-CHPS/NE-CHPS green school projects.
Allison Zuchman

Allison Zuchman

Senior Sustainability Consultant, The Green Engineer

Allison has 25 years of experience in architecture, including the past 10 years as a sustainability consultant. She holds a M. Arch from Rice University and a Bach. of Design in Architecture from the University of Florida.
