Tour Eastie: Building Future Communities

Time: 10:00am – 12:30pm | Location: 144 Marginal St, Boston, MA 02128

Join us for an educational and partial volunteering tour of East Boston’s community based systems that are bringing shade, biodiversity, and a connection to healthy food to a community that has been a neighborhood of manufacturing that attracted a large immigrant community. Eastie is working to build a resilient future from the waterfront’s harbor walk to the multiple community gardens that help combat the food desert. Meet us at Tree Eastie for a volunteering and education session followed by a short walk and tour of Eastie Farm, New England’s first geothermal greenhouse.

Agenda:
10am: Arrive at Tree Eastie apple orchard (5-10 minute walk from Maverick T)
10am-11am: Learn about Tree Eastie, urban forestry, and heat island from Bill Masterson (or other Tree Eastie leader), possible light volunteering (weeding)
11am – 11:30am: Walking tour of Eastie through harborwalk and to Eastie Farm
11:30am-12:30pm: Eastie Farm tour and presentation
12:30pm – adjourn/hang out in eastie for some lunch (optional)
