ZERO CARBON BUILDING ASSESSMENT: DESIGNING FOR CARBON NEUTRALITY IN BOSTON

Joelle Jahn from WSP addresses the process for establishing zero carbon design by using the zero carbon building assessment. She reviews Massachusetts and Boston’s progress with moving towards carbon neutral and global warming goals. She also introduces ArtFarm, a case study in Somerville, MA that is following the net zero plan.

Joëlle Jahn

Joëlle Jahn is a Senior Sustainability Consultant and Passive House Expert with WSP’s Built Ecology group where she partners with architects and developers to deliver high performance buildings that meet government and corporate mandates for climate action and resiliency. She manages Built Ecology’s Zero Carbon Building Analysis and PHIUS certification process. Joëlle is a leader in parametric building analysis to develop integrated passive design solutions that respond to climatic, site, and programmatic conditions. She is experienced in Energy Benchmarking, Resiliency Strategy, Facade Analysis, Energy Code Compliance Assessment, Solar Photovoltaic Analysis and Sustainability Analysis for City and State Permitting. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Design + Environmental Analysis from Cornell University and Masters in Energy and Environment from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and has been invited to lecture at Northeastern and Cornell University.
