Understanding Your Baseline and Setting Goals

In “Preparing for Change: Understanding Your Baseline and Setting Goals,” participants develop an understanding of their current situation, the challenges and barriers they face, and the cultural and systemic dynamics that influence how they do business. They then deconstruct their workflow to identify critical changes they can put in place to achieve their business objectives. The instructor uses this highly interactive format to introduce participants to core educational principles related to change management and organizational effectiveness.

Schedule:
  • 2 hours: Baseline and assessments
  • 2 hours: Establishing objectives and comprehensive, specific changes that they need to make.

Every company has to implement new things – whether it is a new time sheet, new project management software, or a comprehensive initiative like diversity and inclusion. In these unprecedented times, the challenges associated with change are heightened and intensified: how can a company navigate the process of change most effectively? How can you overcome resistance and build buy-in and momentum so there is faster adoption? How will your workflow and processes change in relation to new goals? How do you communicate internally and externally? How can you engage employees at different levels and across different business units?

This series of workshops digs into your unique business context and shows you how to apply the principles of change management so that you can be empowered to apply the same approach into the future, when new challenges arise.

LEED Green Associate Exam Preparation | Green Building Training Program

The LEED Exam Prep Course is a comprehensive course which will prepare attendees for the LEED Green Associate. This eight-hour course is designed to cover the segments of the Green Associate Exam. If you have specific questions regarding a specialty exam, feel free to bring these questions to class and the instructor will cover these identified areas.

This is a fast-paced class for real estate professionals, architects, engineers, students, and anyone interested in green building practices and LEED. The majority of attendees have little previous knowledge of the LEED rating system, green building operations, and green building construction. Upon completion of the class, employees will be eligible to sit for the LEED Green Associate exam at a local testing center. Please note that the national office has lowered their student rate to $100–read more at usbgc.org. By passing the exam, employees will earn the LEED Green Associate credential.

The course is divided into the following, one-hour long sessions:

  1. Introduction – This section will explain the LEED Green Associate credentialing process and serve as an introduction to LEED, sustainability, the USGBC, the GBCI, and the LEED rating system.
  2. Location and Transportation / Sustainable Sites – Topics include site issues such as connectivity, transportation, erosion, landscaping, and heat island effect.
  3. Water Efficiency / Energy and Atmosphere – Topics include water issues (plumbing efficiency, irrigation, process water, etc.) and energy and atmosphere issues (demand, efficiency, renewable energy, ozone-depleting substances, etc.).
  4. Materials and Resources – Topics include procurement and waste diversion.
  5. Indoor Environmental Quality – Topics include indoor environmental quality issues such as occupant comfort and green cleaning.
  6. Innovation / Regional Priority / Certification Process – This section will explain the LEED certification process, as well as the Innovation and Regional Priority categories.
  7. Exam Review – Discussion of exam format and registration and sample exam questions.
  8. Exam Review – Reviewing sample exam questions.

This LEED AP Building Design and Construction training will walk through the requirements and calculations required for the following LEED credits: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy & Atmosphere, Materials & Resources, and Indoor Environmental Quality. Completing this course will prepare you for the prestigious LEED AP professional credential.

Introduction to Energy Modeling with eQuest

12 Hour Training presented by Built Environment Plus

Building Energy Modeling is a versatile, multipurpose tool that is used in new building and retrofit design, green
certification, qualification for tax credits and utility incentives. The importance of creating energy models for a
building is growing as we focus on building energy efficiency as a key strategy to fight climate change and global
heating.

Learning Objectives:
After completing the course, attendees will be able to:
1) describe how modeling is used as part of an integrative design process
2) construct simple commercial building energy models using eQuest
3) interpret the results of energy models
4) distinguish between design models and validation models

Prerequisites and Target Audience
What will students need to know or do before starting this course?
This is a hands-on, project-based course that will give you the confidence to use energy modeling on your
projects. While there are no specific pre-requisites, knowledge of the building industry and basic building science
will be helpful.

The course will be spread across two days. At the conclusion of day one, attendees will be asked to perform
modeling exercises (aka homework) outside of class, to be completed by the next class session. Each section
will build upon previous work in class. By the end of the class, students will have created, run and QCed an
energy model on a building of their choosing. Along the way, we’ll touch on the uses of energy modeling in an
integrated design process, and some of the standards that apply to energy modeling such as ASHRAE 90.1
Appendix G.

Note that students will need access to a computer with the Windows operating system, and administrative rights
to be able to load the eQuest software.
