SUMMARY:Stretch & Specialized Code Basics
DESCRIPTION:About the Training This course covers the 225 CMR 23.00 MA Commercial Stretch and Opt-in Specialized energy codes applicable from July 1\, 2023 and including February 2025 updates. The presentation encompasses the different pathways available for code compliance\, requirements for each section (envelope\, mechanical\, plumbing\, and electrical)\, and an overview of how the different components work together. Participants will also learn how the Fossil Fuel Free Pilot communities program may use the Stretch Code as a tool to help meet building performance and electrification goals. This course is intended for all building industry professionals\, including but not limited to architects\, engineers\, consultants\, modelers\, developers\, owners\, and contractors. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				This training is eligible for 2 AIA LU / HSW continuing education credits. \nThis is a live\, online training led by Chris Schaffner with The Green Engineer. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Chris Schaffner\, PE\, LEED Fellow\, is the founder and CEO of The Green Engineer\, Inc. SUMMARY:WUFI Passive Single Family Training (Phius)
DESCRIPTION:Two 4-Hour Sessions on February 11th and 12th from 11:00am – 3:00pmOne 2-Hour Session on February 18th from 11:00am – 1:00pm\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				About the Training:WUFI Passive is a powerful tool that can enhance\, streamline\, and optimize the design and certification of passive building projects if integrated into the design process properly. This course is both for those learning WUFI Passive for the first time and those who learned WUFI Passive during the Phius Certified Consultant (CPHC) training but have not had a chance to apply the tool yet. Students will model a single family home from start to finish\, learn the typical modeling workflow\, and complete an individual design exercise with instructor guidance and critique. \n Trainees are eligible to earn 10 Phius Continuing Education Units and 10 AIA Learning Units. \n This is a live\, online training led by Phius instructors. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				About Phius\n				Phius (Passive House Institute US) trains and certifies professionals\, maintains the Phius climate-specific passive building standard\, certifies and quality assures passive buildings\, certifies high-performance building products and conducts research to advance high-performance building. \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Learning Objectives\n				1. DESCRIPTION:This training is composed of 10-15 hours of self-guided content to be completed ahead of attending 6\, 4-hour live online sessions.\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Registrants will receive access to self-guided content on March 2nd. With this access\, registrants will also be able to select a live online training from a list of upcoming sessions scheduled by Phius. See Upcoming Live Sessions below for session options. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				About the ClassThe Phius Certified Builder Certification is for tradespeople and construction professionals with superintendents\, supervisors\, foremen\, and project managers with field experience in construction and/or high performance building. This training prepares professionals to understand passive building techniques — airtight enclosures\, high-performance window installation\, passive design strategies\, field quality assurance\, and site management. For a project pursuing Phius Certification\, these professionals ensure the building is built and operating to the plans and specifications. They are responsible for ensuring air-sealing and thermal bridge mitigation. \nRefund policyFull refunds are available only if written notice is provided 7 days prior to course start date. On the first business day following the registration deadline\, registrants will receive instructions via email to gain access to self-guided content and select a live online session. Access to self-guided materials cannot be shared ahead of the registration deadline. \nSelf-Guided / Part 110-15 hours of self-paced online learning modules. There will also be a mandatory meeting roughly 4 weeks ahead of the first live session. Further details regarding this meeting will be communicated to registrants by Phius. This meeting will be recorded and available for anyone who registers after the meeting. \nCompletion of the self-paced modules is required before the instructor-led sessions begin. This content focuses on the building science\, passive building principles\, and physics that are the foundation for Phius certification. Also covered is the Phius certification process and requirements\, as well as quality management and quality control to ensure that construction stays on budget and on schedule. \nPart 2Live instruction delivered in 6\, 4-hour sessions over 2 weeks. Trained instructors will guide participants through on the job scenarios and application of the principles taught in the self-guided content\, while also reviewing and building upon that knowledge. These sessions are highly interactive and depend on participant involvement. SUMMARY:Phius Certified Consultant (CPHC) Training
DESCRIPTION:This training is composed of two phases: 50-60 hours of self-guided content (Phase I) to be completed ahead of attending 8\, 3-hour live online training sessions (Phase II).\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Registrants will receive access to self-guided (Phase I) content on March 2nd. With this access\, registrants will also be able to select a live (Phase II) training from a list of upcoming sessions scheduled by Phius. CPHCs learn to design to the Phius Certification climate-specific building standard. Projects earning Phius certifications (Phius CORE\, Phius ZERO and Phius REVIVE) follow RESNET QA/QC protocols and achieve excellent HERS scores\, US Department of Energy Zero Energy Ready Home status\, and adhere to EPA indoor airPLUS requirements. \nRefund policyFull refunds are available only if written notice is provided 7 days prior to course start date. Registration transfers are only allowed for rescheduling to a future training and cannot be transferred between individuals. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				About Phius\n				Phius (Passive House Institute US) trains and certifies professionals\, maintains the Phius climate-specific passive building standard\, certifies and quality assures passive buildings\, certifies high-performance building products and conducts research to advance high-performance building. Phius established the CPHC program in 2008 to distinguish accomplished passive building professionals in the marketplace. CPHC ® is a registered certification mark of Phius used with permission. \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Enrollment and Training Structure: Phase I and Phase II \n				Registration for this training occurs on a monthly basis. On the first business day following the registration deadline\, registrants will receive instructions via email to gain access to self-guided content (Phase I) and select a live online (Phase II) session. Access to Phase I materials cannot be shared ahead of the registration deadline. \nPhius recommends choosing a Phase II start date that is at least 3-5 months after starting Phase I. See Upcoming Phase II Sessions below for upcoming Phase II sessions. \nPhase IPhase I of the CPHC training comprises a series of pre-recorded online virtual sessions taught by expert instructors\, collected readings\, recommended resources\, and quizzes; altogether comprising about 50-60 hours of learning material. Enrollees have access to Phase I materials for 12 months. \nRegistrants will have access to the Phase I self-guided training materials for 12 months from the time of registration through Phius. This includes access to the Phase I Online Exam as well\, 1 of the 2 required exams for CPHC® certification. The online exam can be taken at a time of your choosing\, but must be completed within the 12 month window\, and must be completed in one sitting. Additional information about the exam can be found on the Phius training site. \nPhase IIThe second phase of the training focuses on design exercises\, and WUFI Passive and THERM software training. Both Phase I and II are required to successfully complete the course and to be eligible to take the final exam. Phase II also includes group projects\, homework assignments and online tutorials. Phase II consists of eight 3-hour instructor-led training sessions across 2 weeks followed by a design exam. \nExamRegistrants will be enrolled in the Phase II Design Exam that opens at the end of their Phase II session. The exam is due 4 weeks after it opens\, and typically takes 20-25 hours to complete. \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Upcoming Phase II Sessions\n				Phase II live sessions are scheduled by Phius and are subject to change. All sessions are held live online unless otherwise noted. Perform energy modeling by completing an entire project including energy balancing (static and dynamic). \n4. Implement high performance building science principles and passive house techniques in residential\, commercial\, and retrofit scenarios across all North American climate zones. \n5. Study built examples—including mechanical systems—for each North American climate zone. \n6. Learn about suitable materials and components available in local U.S. and Canadian markets\, and details for passive house applications according to climate. \n7. Learn the best air tightness strategies\, thermal bridge free detailing\, and how to evaluate your design in THERM. \n8.
