SUMMARY:LEED Exam Prep Course
DESCRIPTION:The LEED Exam Prep Course is a comprehensive course which will prepare attendees for the Green Associate and other specialty exams. The day long curriculum is designed to cover the segments of the Green Associate Exam and to lightly cover the AP specialty exams. If you have specific questions regarding a specialty exam\, feel free to bring these questions to class and have the instructor cover these identified areas. \nCome join us for this session! We have only had positive feedback and success stories from previous classes. \nAbout the Class This is a fast-paced class for real estate professionals\, architects\, engineers\, students and anyone else interested in green building practices and LEED.  The majority of attendees have little previous knowledge of the LEED rating system\, green building operations and green building construction.  Upon completion of the class employees will be eligible to sit for the LEED Green Associate exam at a local testing center.  Please note that the national office has lowered their student rate to 100 dollars\, read more at usbgc.org. By passing the exam\, employees will earn the LEED Green Associate credential. If interested in attending a LEED Green Associate Exam Prep class\, please email celis@usgbcma.org\, groups welcome.\nRegistration and Discounts Check our discounts to see if you are eligible. Confirmation of discount eligibility will be conducted at the beginning of the class. \nReimbursements and Cancelations Reimbursements will be granted through a credit to be used at a later date. Attendees can change their name for a colleague if they choose to. If the Chapter cancels the course all attendees can expect a full refund. \nAbout the Exam The Green Associate preparation course will cover most of the material on the LEED Green Associate exam. You should plan to spend an additional 10-20 hours of study time outside of this class. This time will be best spent reviewing the reading materials listed below while paying particular attention to concepts and terminology. The LEED Green Associate Handbook references hundreds of pages of reading materials\, while this class will focus primarily on the 106-page LEED Core Concepts Guide.  As part of this fast-tracked course\, we will skim some reading materials and skip other reading materials. Students who have passed the exam have reported that local study partners and/or study groups have been very helpful. \nThe 8-hour course is devised of the following sessions: \nChapter #1 – IntroductionThis 1-hour chapter will explain the LEED Green Associate credentialing process and serve as an introduction to LEED\, sustainability\, the USGBC\, the GBCI and the LEED rating system. SUMMARY:Sustainability 101: From Foundations to the Future
DESCRIPTION:At USGBC MA\, we want to help the green building community redesign the built environment to be more sustainable. As climate change becomes a pressing issue for Boston\, professionals are going to need to work together to meet this goal. \nBut where do you start? \nSometimes\, it is good to start with the basics. At our course Sustainability 101: From Foundations to the Future\, attendees will learn about the basics of sustainability in the built environment. From the three P’s of sustainability\, to what the laws of thermodynamics have to do with sustainability\, attendees will leave this course with a broader appreciation and understanding of sustainability. \nAbout the instructor\, Meredith Elbaum\nAs a sustainability advocate and educator\, I joined the USGBC MA\, as Executive Director\, in November 2017. Before becoming ED\, I was developing climate action plans\, master plans\, design guidelines and green buildings as President of the Elbaum Group\, LLC. Fueled by an interest in materials transparency I launched the Health Product Declaration as its Interim Executive Director.  For almost a decade I was Director of Sustainable Design at Sasaki. During that time I helped in the USGBC MA Chapter’s creation and served as a founding board member. I also co-created the Architecture and Design Sustainable Design Leaders Network. DESCRIPTION:In South Boston\, there is an old rum distillery retro-fitted to be a Passive House.  Join USGBC MA for a behind the scenes presentation about the architectural features of the space\, as well as a tour of the location. \n\nFeatures include:\n\n\nNo drafts\, temperature gradients\, or excessive dryness and humidity\nUses 95% less energy HVAC compared to a building in its class.\nAdvanced air filtration that removes hazardous particulates from city air\nExtra insulation and triple-paned\, openable windows\, making it quieter than other buildings.\nConveniently located and easily accessible\nResident parking\, interior and outside lots 360 degree city views from the roof\nHigh-end finishes and high ceilings\nIn-unit washer and dryer\nRoof access with grow beds\n\n\nThe challenge of the project was how to make PH construction– which would meet certification\, with 90 – 95% reduction in thermal energy requirements. DESCRIPTION:The Library! At Bown Crossing project is one of the first endeavors to pursue certification under the new LEED v4 BD+C rating system. We invite you to explore the building design concepts and construction implementation regarding both design and LEED in an in-depth analysis. \nThe project team chose to implement LEED v4 before the registration deadline was established\, resulting in a truly pioneering effort to certify before most projects considered taking the plunge.
