DESCRIPTION:GBCI: 0920013675\nWilliam Shakespeare said ‘All the world’s a stage’. In our day to day lives that stage is the built environment. According to the EPA\, we spend 90% of our time indoors. That means that our living\, working\, playing\, learning – it’s all done indoors. The economic activity in our world is also effected\, in large part\, by the construction\, operation\, and disposal of our shared built environments. Materials make the built environment possible\, and the choices made of which materials to use have massive consequences for human health and the ecosystem we live in. This one hour course will empower project teams and design professionals to take leading roles in using materials selection to promote human health and protect the environment.\nCourse Objectives:\n1       Describe the environmental and human health consequences of building materials. 2       Discuss the evolution of green building perspectives on building materials including recent refinements to LEED v4\, and the inclusion of credits with a focus on disclosure such as MR credit Building Product Disclosure and Optimization – Sourcing of Raw Materials in LEED for BD+C and ID+C. 3       Explain the intent of LEED v4 credits focused on life-cycle impacts in BD+C and ID+C\, such as MR credit Building Product Disclosure and Optimization – Environmental Product Declarations. 4       Explain how the Health Product Declaration (HPD) can qualify products to contribute under MR credit Building Product Disclosure and Optimization – Material Ingredients in LEED v4 for BD+C and ID+C.\nCredits: 1 AIA 1 GBCI (LEED Specific BD+C\, ID+C\, GA)\nThe OPR can have a broad impact on the new LEED v4 credits. DESCRIPTION:EMERGING PROFESSIONALS OF MASSACHUSETTS (EPMA)\nThe EPMA Committee is a great venue for becoming more engaged with green building community and forming meaningful connections with colleagues across the industry. Our monthly meetings are open to anyone interested in becoming more involved. \n\nPresentation: Sustainability Challenges in Healthcare and Biotech\nHospitals and research institutions are some of the most energy and waste intensive built environments\, with unique challenges in improving their energy efficiency. This problem is especially important when considering Boston’s unique makeup\, where hospitals consist of 10% of the largest buildings in the city and create 25% of GhGs. What barriers do these spaces need to overcome\, and what does a ‘green’ Hospital look like? Nathan Kingery-Gallagher\, former researcher at MGH and HMS\, introduces the problems these buildings face and his recommendations on how to address them. \n\nAbout the Presenter\nNathan Kingery-Gallagher has spent over five years in research at Boston’s Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School before beginning his career as a sustainability professional. This presentation takes these findings from the lab to the real-world. 10 buildings from around the U.S. were recruited to participate in a week-long building assessment survey. In each building\, 12 participants completed daily health surveys and cognitive tests. We will highlight the elements of building design\, operation and maintenance in green certified and non-certified buildings that result in cognitive and health improvements\, and introduce the concept of “buildingomics”\, a holistic approach to examining the complexity of factors in a building that influence human health. Lastly\, this session will answer some of the common questions building practitioners face: what are the building factors that influence health and productivity\, what is the evidence supporting these relationships\, and what can my business do to optimize these factors for health?\nLike what you see? DESCRIPTION:Update: Due to the high interest in the March 12th meeting\, we will now be holding the meeting on the 5th Floor in “Meridian.”\n\nThe Residential Green Building Committee is focused on improving the housing stock of the Commonwealth by championing green building practices in our communities. Join us on the second Monday of each month to be a part of the movement.\n\nGuest speaker: Eric Wilkinson\n\nEric Wilkinson joined ELM in 2016. Prior to joining ELM\, Eric served as Senior External Affairs Representative at ISO New England\, the entity responsible for managing the wholesale energy grid. Eric’s responsibilities included environmental\, climate change and renewable energy issues. Eric served as the lead for External Affairs on both the ISO’s energy-efficiency and distributed generation forecasts. Eric also served as Policy Advisor to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities\, overseeing implementation of the Board’s smart growth main extension rules and providing guidance on smart growth issues. He was Policy Director at New Jersey Future and a senior contributor to their smart growth and sustainable development policy analysis and initiatives. Eric has also worked as director of the EPA’s Voluntary Standards Network\, and as a member of the President’s Council on Sustainable Development. Eric holds a Juris Doctorate and a Masters in the Study of Environmental Law\, cum laude from the Vermont Law School.\n\n\n\nResidential Green Building Committee \nThe committee’s objectives are to work to raise the awareness of the benefits of residential green building and remodeling and to increase the quantity of projects registering for LEED for Homes. DESCRIPTION:About the Course\n\nThe LEED Exam Prep Course is a comprehensive course which will prepare attendees for the Green Associate and other specialty exams. The day long curriculum is designed to cover the segments of the Green Associate Exam and to lightly cover the AP specialty exams. If you have specific questions regarding a specialty exam\, feel free to bring these questions to class and have the instructor cover these identified areas. \nCome join us for this session! We have only had positive feedback and success stories from previous classes.\nAbout the Class\nThis is a fast-paced class for real estate professionals\, architects\, engineers\, students and anyone else interested in green building practices and LEED.  The majority of attendees have little previous knowledge of the LEED rating system\, green building operations and green building construction.  Upon completion of the class employees will be eligible to sit for the LEED Green Associate exam at a local testing center.  Please note that the national office has lowered their student rate to 100 dollars\, read more at usbgc.org. By passing the exam\, employees will earn the LEED Green Associate credential. He is responsible for the design and certification of the second certified Passive House in Massachusetts\, and assisted with the design\, and preparation of the PHPP for the first EnerPHIT certified home in the US. Mike is a founder and member of the Board of Directors of Passive House Massachusetts.

All are welcome to join in this high-level discussion. \n\nGeneral Questions: How can this committee reach out and build value for practitioners and the larger community? How can we accommodate both detailed issue-based discussions as well as more inviting\, general discussions for new members?\n\nConnecting our priorities to other national/local legislative agendas (USGBC\, ILFI) \nRoles on Committee\, General Communication\, Decision Making\n\nWe look forward to seeing you there!\nHere is some background on what the Chapter has been working on recently:\nWe are still tracking our current priorities::\n\nPACE Clean Energy Financing – we were victorious in attaining PACE for Massachusetts in 2016! Now: how can we bring this new tool to bear on green building projects throughout the Commonwealth?\nNet Zero Energy building code – how can we shift the conversation on codes? How can we support municipalities who are leading – like Cambridge with their Net Zero Action Plan?\nNet Metering Improvements – we were able to engineer reform of net metering in 2016\, but we know it was a temporary fix.
