SUMMARY:Building Tech Forum materialsCAN: Getting to Zero With Embodied Carbon
DESCRIPTION:Location: Remote Web Conference \nDate: Wednesday\, October 28th\, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM (EDT) \nBuilding Tech Forum: Roadmap to 2050 wanted to better understand how our carbon footprint will change to accommodate the Commonwealth’s commitment to become carbon neutral by 2050. Now\, we’re narrowing in on a particular type of carbon that’s standing in the way of carbon neutrality: embodied carbon. \nThe Materials Carbon Action Network (materialsCAN) states that “embodied carbon will be responsible for almost half of total new construction emissions between now and 2050. Unlike operational carbon emissions\, which can be reduced over time with building energy efficiency renovations and the use of renewable energy\, embodied carbon emissions are locked in place as soon as a building is built. It is critical that we get a handle on embodied carbon now if we hope to phase out fossil fuel emissions by the year 2050.” Handling embodied carbon then is an important objective for innovative sustainable design – this upcoming Building Tech Forum will tackle exactly this issue. \nBuilding Tech Forum materialsCAN: Getting to Zero with Embodied Carbon brings together members of the Materials Carbon Action Network to explore the future of embodied carbon. Through five-minute lightning talks\, experts will discuss the future of materials that prioritize embodied carbon\, important materials to consider\, and other critical design challenges. Afterwards\, meet your favorite speakers in our breakout room session and talk about the issues that struck you. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn and to connect with the people behind the amazing innovations happening within our community!

SUMMARY:Building Tech Forum: Roadmap to 2050
DESCRIPTION:** UPDATE: Building Tech Forum has been rescheduled for May 20th and will now be hosted virtually. ** \nThis event will be the first of a series of “Tech Forums\,” each featuring a different theme and lineup of expert speakers. A new session will be scheduled every couple of months and will feature 10-15 speakers. Unlike prior Building Tech Forums\, this new iteration will feature an online web forum that will host discussions and recordings of the sessions. The forum will serve as a place for folks to make connections and keep up-to-date with major innovations in the industry. While we love hosting Building Tech Forum in person\, we are doing everything we can to ensure that the virtual Tech Forums bring the same level of excitement and energy! \n\n\n\n\nLocation: Remote Web Conference \nDate: Wednesday\, May 20th\, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM (EDT) \nGovernor Baker has increased the Commonwealth’s commitment to carbon neutral by 2050. In order to achieve this\, Massachusetts is developing a roadmap to reduce emissions by 80% 100%. At the same time\, the BBRS is drafting a Net Zero Stretch Code. The City of Boston is developing performance standards for existing residential and commercial buildings\, Brookline residents voted in favor of a natural gas ban\, and the City of Somerville just passed carbon neutral zoning. The landscape is changing quickly\, the Building Tech Forum will provide the context for how we get there. \nHow we manage and consume energy\, design and build our cities\, and understand our carbon footprint will change over the next thirty years. \nJoin us at Building Tech Forum 2020 to share your roadmap to ’50.  Through five minute lightning presentations\, experts will speak about innovations that are changing the way we design\, construct and operate the built environment. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn and to connect with the people behind the amazing innovations happening within our community! \nCurious about what last year was like? See some photos\, stats\, and presentations.
