SUMMARY:From Reactive to Proactive: Improving Existing Building Operations
DESCRIPTION:About the TrainingMany building owners and operators experience rising utility costs\, unexpected maintenance expenses and premature equipment failures that slowly push operating expenses beyond budget. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Existing Building Commissioning\, also known as retrocommissioning\, helps owners and operators better understand these operational and budget variances by identifying where systems are no longer functioning as intended. \nOften described as a “tune-up” for existing buildings\, existing building commissioning can help:– Reduce unexpected utility and maintenance costs– Improve alignment between operating expenses and annual budgets– Identify underperforming or failing equipment– Improve occupant comfort and system reliability– Extend the life of existing building systems– Support compliance planning for Boston BERDO and Massachusetts Building Performance Standards (BPS) \nThrough real-world examples\, this 1-hour webinar will explore how existing building commissioning helps to uncover operational inefficiencies\, and how programs like Mass Save can help fund assessments and correction measures. \nDesigned for building owners\, operators\, facility managers\, sustainability managers\, consultants\, and teams working with existing buildings in Massachusetts\, participants will leave with clear next steps for improving operations using the systems already in place. \n This training is eligible for 1 AIA LU / HSW continuing education credit. This is a live\, online webinar led by Hardik Miyani and Pushpank Atwadkar with Baumann Consulting. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Hardik Miyani is a Sr. Energy & Decarbonization Manager at Baumann Consulting\, bringing over nine years of experience in portfolio-level energy management\, decarbonization\, commissioning\, and retro-commissioning. He leads the firm’s Existing Building Decarbonization Committee in the Midwest\, advancing scalable strategies guided by helping clients reduce costs\, lower carbon emissions\, and enhance occupant well-being. Hardik holds a Master’s degree in Energy Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago and is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and Certified Energy Manager (CEM). Hardik has received multiple national and international recognitions\, including GreenBiz 30 Under 30 in Energy\, Under 40 in Commissioning from BCxA\, and Young Energy Professional of the Year (AEE – Midwest). \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Pushpank Atwadkar\, LEED AP BD+C\, is an Energy and Decarbonization Engineer at Baumann Consulting with over four years of experience in building performance and optimization. He supports a wide range of services including energy benchmarking\, ASHRAE energy audits\, and retro-commissioning\, helping clients identify practical opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. With a detail-oriented and analytical approach\, Pushpank contributes to delivering data-driven\, cost-effective solutions that enhance building performance and support clients in achieving their sustainability and decarbonization goals. Pushpank holds a Master’s degree in Energy Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC)\, along with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Register here\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Learning Objectives\n 1. Understand the Existing Building Commissioning (EBCx) process and how it supports compliance with Building Performance Standards (BPS)2. Identify common operational inefficiencies using industry best practices for system diagnostics3. Learn how Mass Save incentives can offset engineering study and implementation costs4.
