SUMMARY:Passive Building in Practice: Design
DESCRIPTION:About the TrainingPassive Building in Practice: Design is a core course for practitioners looking to deepen their expertise on high-performance projects. While many firms are pursuing Passive House\, they may not need their entire staff to hold professional certifications. This course bridges that gap by focusing on the architect’s responsibility as the central coordinator of a Passive House project\, helping you understand how to avoid common mistakes and drive cost-effective solutions.  \nThe curriculum illustrates how early design decisions–such as building form–directly impact mechanical requirements and project viability. Participants navigate an integrated design process where architectural\, engineering\, and construction workflows co-evolve to meet Passive House standards.   \nKey topics include designing for airtightness\, cost optimization\, energy budgets\, and complex building transitions. We also examine the architect’s vital role in delivering buildable construction documents and managing construction-phase quality control. This training provides a framework for navigating the specific architectural challenges of a successful Passive House delivery.  \nThis webinar is eligible for 2 AIA LU / HSW\, 1 Phius and 2 PHI continuing education credits. \nThis is a live\, virtual training led by Beth Campbell with Passive House Massachusetts. She has a proven track record of delivering innovative net-zero and passive single-family and “missing middle” residential projects\, and previously focused on improving panelized construction methods at Unity Homes/Bensonwood in New England. The following documentation is required to apply: \nSigned Form W-9Certificate of Good Standing (COGS) from the Massachusetts Department of Revenue\, dated within 6 months from the date of application submissionCertificate of Compliance from the Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) that is not expired on the date of application submission \nThe contracting period of approved Express Grants begins 21 days after the grant application date and ends one year from this date. All training must be completed within the contract period to be eligible for reimbursement. \n*Review the BE+ Workforce Training Grant webpage for additional eligibility requirements and other updates made by the Commonwealth Corporation. \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy\n				Full refunds are available only if written notice is provided 7 days prior to course start date.
