Case studies of Boston buildings are used to show how these switches are possible. ABOUT THE GREEN ENGINEER, INC.
The Green Engineer, Inc. is a sustainable design consulting firm specializing in energy efficient and sustainable design solutions for the built environment. Founded in 2005 the firm has 22 employees, of which 17 are LEED APs. Our team bring experience and perspective from backgrounds including engineering, architecture, construction, planning, development, and public policy. We have in-house, registered Professional Engineers, Architects, ASHRAE Certified Building Energy Assessment Professional (BEAPs), Certified Passive House Consultants (CPHC), and Building Energy Modeling Professionals (BEMPs). We use tools like building performance modeling and life-cycle assessment to analyze performance and inform decision-making. We have managed approximately 210 LEED Certified projects, including 14 LEED Platinum projects. The Green Engineer is legally incorporated as a Massachusetts Benefit Corporation, and is a Certified B Corp. As part of our business model, we are employee owned – 70% of our full-time staff members are also owners.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Chris Schaffner, PE, LEED Fellow founder and CEO, The Green Engineer, Inc. has 32 years of experience in the design of building systems with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from M.I.T., and is a registered professional engineer in Massachusetts, California and Vermont. As LEED Faculty, Chris has trained 10,000+ building professionals in the LEED Rating System. He also teaches at Northeastern University in their Sustainable Building Systems program. He serves as Outgoing Chair of the LEED Steering Committee and was a founding Board member of the USGBC MA. He holds the LEED AP designation with BD+C, ID+C, and EB+OM specialties. He is a WELL AP and a member of the WELL Faculty. Chris’s portfolio of projects incorporating energy efficiency and sustainability ranges across building types from high-rise office buildings to small multi-family residential, including over 200 projects that have achieved LEED Certification.
